Sikkim Himalayas is one of the most unexplored regions of India and is inhabited by three major ethnic groups viz, Lapcha, Bhuita and Nepalese. Owing to its location in the Himalayas Sikkim is very rich in medicinal plant diversity. Present study is the first attempt of its own kind to document the ethnoveterinary knowledge of Sikkim. A total of 66 medicinal plant species have been recorded from the state which are used to cure about 37 ailments of livestock of them as many as 18 species have been documented as veterinary medicinal plants for the first time in India and four species are new records to science. The book encompasses the original findings of the author on the ethnoveterinary aspects based on up-to-date nomenclature for the plant taxa and interaction with the indigenous people, which capture direct attention to the readers. It is useful for the students, researchers and scientists working in the field of Botany, Ethnobotany, Medicinal Plants, Ayurveda, Unani, Veterinary Sciences as well as Forestry.

Kumar Avinash Bharati, PhD in Botany; Research Associate(RA-CSIR),at the Raw Materials Herbarium & Museum Delhi (RHMD), National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources, New Delhi. His major field of interest is Ethnobotany and he has concentrated on exploration and documentation of folk medicines in different regions of India.
